UCFNEI Calls for Rigorous Efforts to Combat Human Trafficking in NE India

The United Christian Forum North East India (UCFNEI), an alliance of Christian Churches in NE India, in its annual general body meeting held on November 20 at Guwahati called upon Governments, Churches and civil society organizations to work together to combat human trafficking in NE India.

UCFNEI has been involved in several campaigns and webinars to confront the problems of human trafficking. We are committed to mobilize and equip Christian communities to combat human trafficking and to restore survivors said Bishop Thomas Pulloppillil the president of UCFNEI.

Dr. Roger Gaikwad opined, “We Christians believe that every human being is created in the image of God with inherent dignity, value and purpose. We believe that followers of Jesus have a biblical mandate to care for the vulnerable and exploited. Human trafficking forms destroy God’s image in people and corrupt His purposes for humanity.”

Rev. Dr. Ramengliana, secretary of UCFNEI, felt, “We believe there is hope in ecumenical alliance to combat human trafficking. Christian Churches have made immense contribution in NEIndia and we consider that we are one of the best agency of change and restoration of God’s people. We need the entire body of Christ working together to effectively address human trafficking.”

The annual meeting of UCFNEI called for extensive plans for collaboration between Christian churches, schools, colleges government departments in NE India to confront human trafficking. The participants from different parts of NE India endorsed and end to human trafficking through the power of partnership.
